Honda plans to debut a hybrid variant of the entry-level Fit hatchback, having the goal of making this one of the least expensive hybrid units on the market. While there's no set date for the launch of the auto, it will be based probably on the next-generation of the vehicle. During the mid-year address, Takeo Fukui CEO confirmed also the automaker's working on some rival to Toyota Prius.
The Prius competitor should arrive next year, plus two other units are expected some time after, this includes an all-new Civic Hybrid plus a sporty hybrid vehicle that's based on the CR-Z concept auto. These four hybrid cars are expected to hit mixed annual global sales of around 500,000 models.
The Prius-fighter model will be a five-door, five passenger car, having a design that's based on the FCX hydrogen fuel cell auto by Honda. Unlike the new-generation wave of competitors, the auto will not be using lithium-ion batteries, having Honda dismissing this technology (too costly). Instead, the auto will have a re-packaged plus smaller hydride nickel-metal battery pack.
