At the Le Mans 24 Hours 2008 on 14/15 June, the three Audi R10 TDI prototype models entered by Audi Sport Team Joest will be racing for the first time having the upcoming generation of Biofuel made from Biowaste and promising reduction in the CO2 emission by almost 90 per cent if compared with the traditional diesel.
Audi fields this 650-hp plus R10 TDI, which already has won the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans, not once... but twice, in sportscar races, this since 2006. Shell V-Power Diesel racing fuel produced by the development partner Shell that has been used since the beginning. It is a particularly efficient and powerful synthetic fuel which is now created from Natural Gas on a process called GTL (Gas To Liquids). Fuels with these components are available already at the pumps.
"Audi voiced its support early for the use of next generation Biofuels at Le Mans,鈥� explains Michael Dick, a Member of the Board of Management of AUDI AG with the responsibility for Technical Development. "It underlines our philosophy that we view Le Mans as a tough test field for new technologies which will be available at a later date in production cars for our customers. The Automobile Club de l鈥橭uest (ACO) provides the opportunity to use alternative drive concepts and fuels, which we exploit to the full.鈥�
