GM seeking Volt tax break for lowering the 40k dollars price
|
As you well know the upcoming Volt`s expected to cost approximately $40,000 when will be on sale in 2010. That is pricey if we compared it with rivals like the Toyota Prius hybrid model, but taxpayers may be of help lowering that sticker.
General Motors is lobbying Congress creating tax credits that benefits "extended-range electric vehicles" like the plug-in Volt, affirms Greg Martin, GM spokesman. "We need to make sure the legislative language does include extended-range electric vehicles".
The Volt concept runs with an electric motor having lithium ion batteries. Some small gasoline engine now recharges the batteries after the car has traveled approximately 40 miles. You can recharge it overnight by plugging the auto into the electrical outlet.
"There haven鈥檛 been any recent developments that threaten the timing," says a source that's familiar with this project. "To the contrary, our confidence in the lithium ion battery continues to grow. But we still have a lot of development and testing to go".
