GM announced now that the Chevrolet Volt model has made a huge step toward being a reality, the design`s finalized and a production variant will be unveiled in the very close future. General Motors wants to make more than 100,000 models a year, this after 2010. The Volt will be produced at the Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly Center that builds now full-size luxury sedan models.
"We intend to show a production version of the Chevy Volt publicly in the very near future," said Rick Wagoner, the chairman and CEO at GM, in what's perhaps the most encouraging news coming out of the General Motors annual meeting for shareholders here. "We remain focused on our target of getting the Volt into Chevrolet showrooms by the end of 2010."
Wagoner continued: "The Chevy Volt is a go. We believe this is the biggest step yet in our industry鈥檚 move away from our historic, virtually complete reliance on petroleum to power vehicles."
