Renault denied it, which is normal - the car makers have a weird habit of denying all the cool things. The Alpine brand name will be revived plus the firm will bring the first sports auto since the RenaultSport Spider.
The all-new Alpine unit will be debuted in 2011. "Since the company’s conception in the 1950s, Alpine cars have been defined by their lightweight constructions and their affordability," Pelata told the Autocar. "Our intention is to revive the brand with a car that has the same virtues."
The 2011 Alpine unit will run with a four-cylinder longitudinally mounted turbocharged petrol engine that will produce enough power – with at least 220bhp - to can compete easily with Mazda MX-5.
There are no news now about what platform the upcoming Alpine will use, but the greatest clue dropped thus far really was the Nissan Urge concept – some open, longitudinally-engined two-seat concept model shown by Nissan in 2006, that's based on a shortened variant of the 350Z’s underpinnings.
