There were some internet rumors saying that General Motors will move 9-3鈥檚 production to General Motors Europe鈥檚 Opel factory in Ruesselsheim, near Frankfurt, in Germany, from Saab鈥檚 Trollhattan, Sweden, plant. But a GM Europe spokesman affirmed today that production of this Saab 9-3 unit will remain in Sweden.
General Motors didn't get the 9-3, so to compensate, GM Europe will be adding production of the Saab 9-5 plus a compact auto at Ruesselsheim. "It is good news that Ruesselsheim will get an extra model, a third shift and that the 9-3 production will remain in Saab鈥檚 home country," said Joerg Schrott - GM Europe spokesman.
General Motors Europe hasn't named the compact vehicle that will be made in Ruesselsheim, but firm sources say it will really be the Opel Astra lower-medium auto.
