Despite a segment downturn, Kia has launched officially the brand new mid-size SUV Borrego. Borrego was unveiled first to the public this year at the Detroit Auto Show and it will take on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Honda Pilot and Ford Explorer.
Although most customers will likely chose the 276 horsepower V6 3.8L variant of the Borrego unit with gas costing now 4 dollars, the V8 two-wheel drive model achieves actually the best highway mileage in the range (22 mpg). Plus, the V8 two-wheel drive unit ties the V6 variants – two and four-wheel drive units – in mixed mileage (18 mpg). It's not that bad for the SUV 337 horsepower.
The Borrego leads also the segment on interior room plus warranty length – 100,000 miles/10 years.
Having a starting cost of $25,245 plus a few class-leading attributes, Borrego will steal some sales away for sure from the competition. With SUV sales that are falling off the cliff, the Borrego model is facing still an uphill fight.
