2008 Mitsubishi Raider

The 2008 Mitsubishi Raider gets a new dashboard this year, but otherwise there have been no other significant changes to this compact pickup truck, which is based on the Dodge Dakota. This rugged pickup is among those that have received above average safety scores when properly equipped and is built upon a fully boxed ladder type frame that allows for impressive handling and a comfortable ride. The Raider is available in rear wheel or all wheel drive.

The Raider is available in a single LS trim as a 4 door double crew cab or a 4 door-rear wheel drive only-extended cab. Standard features include 16 inch machine finish alloy wheels, a hinged and removable tailgate, remote keyless entry, a tire pressure monitor, a 4 speaker AM/FM/CD stereo and power windows, mirrors and door locks. Its aggressive exterior features bulging front and rear wheel wells and a uniquely designed hood with a thin upper grille and a thick, low front bumper that has become indicative of the Mitsubishi brand.

All versions are equipped with a 210 horsepower 3.7-liter V6 engine. Extended cabs are available with a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission, while the Double Cabs sole transmission option is an automatic. Fuel consumption is about average for a V6 in this category, with EPA estimates of 15 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway.

The 2008 Mitsubishi Raider in double cab, all wheel drive form is capable of towing up to 4000 pounds, whereas the rear wheel drive extended cab version is only capable of towing 2950 pounds. As a general rule of thumb, the all wheel drive double cab is versatile working truck, while the extended cab version offers more passenger space. Although the Raider is a good value for the money it is unremarkable-and the Dodge Dakota, upon which the Raider is based, offers V8 power and more creature comforts for a slightly higher price.
