The Pontiac Solstice was launched as a roadster in 2006. It was first shown to the public as a concept vehicle at the 2004 North American International Auto Show. The first generation model is similar to that of the concept vehicle. The 2006 model was built on the General Motors Kappa body. In 2006, a GXP version of the Solstice made its debut. This car was powered by a 260 horsepower 2.0 Liter Ecotec engine. The GXP model was equipped with traction control, anti-lock brakes and 18 inch tires.
In 2008, the Pontiac Solstice comes in two versions; entry level and GXP. The entry level model is powered by a 177 horsepower four cylinder 2.4 Liter engine, while the GXP version is powered by a turbocharged 2.0 Liter engine which has four cylinders and 260 horsepower. Both models are available with either a five speed manual transmission or a five speed automatic transmission. The base model can achieve a speed of 60 miles per hour in 7.7 seconds, while the GXP can achieve it in 5.8 seconds. The base model is equipped with 18 inch tires, a soft top, tilt steering wheel, OnStar system, stereo system with satellite radio and a player that can play MP3 or CD formats. The GXP is equipped with fog lights, cruise control, leather steering wheel and keyless entry. Options on both models include air conditioning, leather seats and a stereo system that can store six CD's at a time. Both versions are equipped with disc brakes for all four tires and ABS.
