During the middle of the 2008 model year, the Nissan Titan lineup of powerful and distinctive full size pickup trucks received some improvements, new option packages and an increase in price for most models. The 2008.5 Nissan Titan 4WD is distinguished from the 2008 model by a new set of rims and a more pronounced front end. The seating is both more comfortable and supportive, while the revised instrument panel adds visual appeal. A few equipment updates and a realignment of the options packages complete the mid year refresh. Otherwise, the 2008.5 4WD Titan is just the same-and just as great-as the 2008 model.
The 4WD versions of the Titan are available in 4 trims and with either a King Cab, which seats 5 or a Crew Cab, which seats 6. The King Cab is the equivalent of what is commonly referred to in the automotive industry as an extended cab, but the compact rear doors on Nissan's King Cab Titan open wide, allowing easy access to the rear seat, unlike the miniscule openings found on most other extended cabs. The interior of all Titans features a modern design, clearly defined and practically positioned gauges and control, and comfortable seating.
All Titans are equipped with a very compelling 317 horsepower, 5.6 liter V8 engine and a 5 speed automatic transmission with a tow/haul mode. Gas mileage is never expected to be very good in large working trucks and it is about average for this Nissan at 12 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway. Properly equipped 4WD models can tow more than 9000 pounds. The wide variety of bed sizes are more than capable of satisfying all light duty truck tasks as well as the majority of heavy duty hauling needs of a contractor on a job site.
The XE, SE and LE 4WD models feature a rugged 4 wheel drive system that has a powerful low range gear for off road use, but cannot be left engaged on dry pavement. The base model XE is well equipped with standard features, while the SE bumps it up a notch with a few more comfort and convenience features and appearance enhancers and the LE has all the bells and whistles-and then some. The 4WD PRO-4X is specifically designed for frequent off road use. This version includes most of the features found in the mid level SE and adds a trim specific locking rear differential, rear fender lock box, skid plates, tow hooks, an off road suspension system,18 inch all terrain tires and a distinctive interior.
Just one engine and only two cab configurations don't seem to hinder the consumer appeal of the 2008 Nissan Titan 4WD (2008.5) If you need a half ton truck for commercial or personal work, the Titan offers strong performance, a full array of safety features, impressive utility, and all the comfort you would expect from a big truck bearing the Nissan name.
