The best selling car in America for several years running has been the Toyota Camry, which debuted for the 1983 model year. At that time, the Camry was a compact, four door sedan and was also available as a hatchback wagon. The small and relatively inexpensive car was subtly attractive and equipped with either a 1.8 liter or 2.0 liter fuel efficient engine. Throughout the many years since its introduction, consistent and dedicated improvement has established the Camry as a highly reliable and practical vehicle.

There have been several redesigns and revisions over the years, with the first being in 1987. The 1987 Toyota Camry was slightly larger than the former models, but still considered a compact car that was available as a four door sedan, but the hatchback was discontinued in lieu of a station wagon style that was thought to be more family friendly and practical. It would be another 5 years before the Camry would see a formal redesign, however the introduction of optional all wheel drive was a significant event in the life of the Camry that occurred in 1988.

In 1992, the Camry arrived as a mid size sedan - larger and more full featured than ever before, consumers and industry analysts shared a mutual appreciation for the more full featured family sedan. Available as a two door coupe, four door sedan or station wagon, luxurious features and accents were not bold, in fact they were slightly understated, which in combination with quality engineering made the Camry a popular fleet vehicle as well.

The station wagon style was discontinued for sale in the United States upon the introduction of the new 1997 design, paving the way for the increasingly popular mini van segment to fill the gap for those who needed more utility and cargo space. Power and performance were boosted with an optional V6 engine and the availability of three trim styles helped to satisfy a variety of motorists.

Yet another generation was introduced in 2002 and included a bevy of safety and security features including side curtain airbags and stability control. Although the Camry was still somewhat bland in appearance, it was conservatively attractive, highly practical and offered many of the comfort and convenience features found in more expensive luxury sedans.

The 2007 Toyota Camry marks yet another year of successful redesign. The well equipped base model CE, conveniently enhanced LE, sport performance SE and luxuriously embellished XLE are capable of satisfying a wide variety of motorists driving styles and personal needs. The standard engine is a 2.4 liter inline 4 cylinder, with a more powerful 3.5 liter V6 available for all models with the exception of the CE. The Camry and its reputation of durability throughout the years has quietly taken over the midsize sedan marketplace in America.
