Suzuki Aerio

The compact car known as the Suzuki Aerio debuted for the 2001 model year, replacing the Suzuki Esteem. This fuel efficient car was available as either a 5 door hatchback in an SX trim or a 4 door sedan in either an S or GS trim and both models came standard with a manual transmission, though an automatic transmission and all wheel drive were both optional for either model. The snub nosed and agile Aerio was powered by a 2.0 liter engine that delivered 145 horsepower throughout the 2003 model year.

Both the sedan and hatchback models were quick, agile and fuel efficient, yet lacked any truly distinctive features to help it stand out in the crowded compact car category. The hatchback model proved to be more versatile due to the impressive 64 cubic feet of cargo space that became available when the rear seat was folded down.

Though few hugely significant changes have been made since its debut, for the 2004 model year the engine size was increased to a 2.3 liter that was capable of 155 horsepower. In 2005, the Aerio was redesigned and featured a brand new interior design and a modified exterior. The previous digital instrument panel was replaced with more user friendly and readable red glowing gauges and more convenient storage compartments added to the functional utility of the car. The exterior was enhanced with a standard rear spoiler that added to the sporty look and feel.

As of the 2007 model year, the compact Suzuki Aerio is only available as a 4 door sedan in base and premium trim levels. Base models are reasonably well equipped; going with the Premium trim adds heated outside mirrors, premium alloy wheels and a high quality audio system. The engine is still the same perky 2.3 liter and a 5 speed manual transmission is still part of the standard equipment package, though the premium trim includes a 4 speed automatic transmission. Both trim levels are available with all wheel drive or front wheel drive. The high roof line allows for a remarkable amount of interior space and 14.6 cubic feet of trunk space as well. The all wheel drive option improves the overall handling of the car and adds more stability and control on wet roads-definitely worth the investment if you are considering an Aerio.
