Subaru Outback

Although the name 'Outback' had been associated with one of the many trims available for the Subaru Legacy, the Subaru Outback was introduced prior to the new millennium as a comfortable, sport minded vehicle of its own model designation as the 1996 Subaru Outback.

Marketed as 'The World's First Sport Utility Wagon', the new Outback featured larger tires, higher ground clearance, a bold new front bumper with integrated fog lights. Powered by a 2.5 liter engine delivering 155 horsepower, its SUV design and impressive handling were further enhanced by leather upholstery and dual sunroofs. The Outback Sport model was introduced in 1998 and based on the Subaru Impreza 5 door hatchback model.

For the 2000 through 2004 model years, the Outback engine was able to produce 165 horsepower, and an L.L. Bean Edition and VDC trim levels added more luxurious and convenient features than found in earlier models, in addition to a more powerful 212 horsepower, 6 cylinder motor.

As of the 2007 model year, the Subaru Outback includes the smaller Sport, a 2.5i Basic Wagon, 2.5i Wagon, 2.5i Limited Sedan, 2.5 XT Limited Wagon and 3.0 R L.L. Bean sedan and wagon. All models include a MP3/WMA capable stereo with CD player. The soft touch dash and door surfaces give an upscale look and feel not often found in this class of vehicle. The Outback has continued throughout the years to be a viable alternative to cross over vehicles and larger SUV's for those who need cargo and passenger space but want a vehicle that delivers a sport car driving experience. Available turbocharged engines, an exemplary list of standard safety features and high quality materials throughout make this car a strong performer, especially on snow covered roads. With all that it offers, the Legacy has earned its reputation of being one of the legendary vehicles of its time in the automotive industry.
