Subaru Impreza

The Subaru Impreza 5 passenger subcompact arrived in the spring of 1993, replacing the maturing Loyale, and it was available in either sedan or 5 door wagon style versions. The Impreza was lower in price, smaller in size and lighter in overall weight than Subaru's only other sedan/wagon offering at the time- the Legacy. The Impreza was powered by an expertly engineered 1.8 liter 4 cylinder engine that produced 118 horsepower. Both sedan and wagon were available in a baseline L and more upscale LS trim model and both were offered with full time all wheel drive or front wheel drive. A 5 speed manual transmission was part of the standard equipment list, while a 4 speed automatic was optional until a few years later when it became part of the standard equipment for the LS.

As the years passed, the Impreza featured the tried and true drive train and many of the reliable components that were also used in the popular Legacy, which helped to reduce development and manufacturing costs and keep the overall price of the car down. For the 2000 model year, the Impreza was available as the L model coupe, 4 door sedan, 5 door wagon and a sporty 2.5 RS coupe, 2.5 RS sedan and an SUV inspired Outback wagon style. The 2.5 RS models arrived boasting a 2.5 liter turbocharged engine that had better acceleration and more horsepower than the standard 2.2 liter engines found in the other versions of the same vehicle.

For the 2006 model year, all Impreza models received a new grille that was similar to the one found on the more athletically designed B9 Tribeca and a new WRX trim joined the lineup with a more powerful 2.5 liter turbocharged engine that produced 230 horsepower. As of the 2007 model year, the Subaru Impreza had grown into a dynamic driving machine that provided excellent handling and high quality and comfortable interiors. Performance, safety and practicality blend seamlessly in this sporty, well built machine. The Impreza successfully satisfies everyday driving needs as well as one's inner desire to be in command of the road ahead.
