The interior features such distinctively Volvo characteristics including first rate materials and an ergonomic style that house an endless list of comfort and convenience features that are situated in an exceptionally functional manner, yet somehow give the appearance of a sleek minimalist design. The one word most commonly associated with the Volvo name in all likelihood would be 'safety', and the XC90 upholds that tradition very well.
Rated as one of the safest SUV's for 2007 by the IIHS and the NHTSA, the XC90 utilizes available technology to help drivers avoid potential problems with safety features such as roll stability control, antilock brakes, traction control, and an advanced blind spot information system including cameras mounted in the side view mirrors that activate an indicator light when another vehicle is within the XC90's blind spots, of which there are relatively few. Safety is also apparent in features that protect the driver and passengers should an accident occur and includes reinforced passenger compartments and a full series of airbags.
In addition to its strong safety features, the XC90 is comfortable, and practical, and available in 3 trims. The 3.2 seats 5 passengers and features front wheel drive, an automatic transmission and 3.2 liter inline 6 cylinder engine delivering 235 horsepower. The 3.2 also comes standard with 17 inch alloy wheels, an auto dimming rear view mirror, a coated radiator to reduce ozone emissions, cloth upholstery, interior wood trim, dual zone automatic climate control and a stereo system complete with CD player, MP3 input jack and eight speakers. The XC90 V8 has the power of a 4.4 liter V8 with all wheel drive and produces 311 horsepower. Inside the V8 you will find all the conveniences found in the 3.2 plus room for seven, a second row integrated child booster seat, a separate rear air conditioning unit, and a sunroof. The V8 Sport uses the same engine as the V8 model and adds a sport tuned suspension system and19" alloy wheels. The inside is highlighted with extra bolstering for the front seats, metallic blue gauges and a three spoke steering wheel. Additional options for all three models are abundant, and the 3.2 can easily be upgraded to accommodate seven passengers and include most of the features found standard on the V8 model.
The 2008 Volvo XC90 is a luxuriously designed mid size SUV offering optimized safety features, comfortable seating for seven, a fold down flat rear seat to accommodate cargo and remains faithful to the concept that an SUV should be just as functional as it is comfortable.
