The Toyota Tundra is a full size pickup truck that was introduced for the 2000 model year as the replacement for the Toyota T100. Initially introduced with three trim styles and nine configurations that offered a choice of a two door regular cab or four door extended cab as well as an economical V6 engine or more powerful V8, the Tundra presented a high quality pickup that could compete with Ford and Chevrolet.

Between the 2001 and the 2003 model years, the Tundra received some upscale options and trim packages, as well as new front and rear fascias on all models. Off road options packages transformed the every day truck into a more powerful and responsive vehicle, while a new Step Side model transformed the style from basic truck to a sporty utility vehicle. The Limited trim was enhanced with a power sliding rear window for convenience and comfort.

A double cab, four door model joined the lineup in 2004 and in 2005 the double cab model was upgraded with a 60/40 split bench front seat to allow room for 6 passengers. Also notable for the 2005 model year is the fact that the V6 engine now delivered 245 horsepower, and the V8 also put out more horsepower at 282. Interior and exterior finishes received a little more polish and were now available with an enhanced audio system and navigational system. The crisp handling and smooth ride combined with its ample power and speed made the Tundra very popular among those whose towing needs were limited and every day drive comfort and convenience were important. With no significant changes for the 2006 model year, the Tundra returned for 2007 larger, completely redesigned and ready to compete in the more commercially based pickup truck marketplace.

Although a favorite with recreational pickup truck drivers with the occasional need to work it on the weekends, the Tundra was not yet readily accepted by those who needed a pickup truck for every day towing and hauling needs. The 2007 model addressed some of the major concerns expressed by those who use their pickup trucks for commercial business. A new front suspension system with coil over shocks and a six inch wider and more unyielding frame are included in the redesign as are standard 18 inch wheels and a fully boxed front half. Many configurations are possible with three cab styles-regular, double and crew-and three engine choices, three bed lengths and a choice of either 4 x 4 or 4 x 2. Now recognized as the largest truck in Toyota history at over 19 feet long, the Tundra also features a comfortable and roomy interior with folding seats to maximize interior space to meet various needs.

Current improvements have launched the Toyota Tundra as a true commercial pickup truck with all the power, torque and hauling capabilities of the competition while integrating a stunning exterior and almost car like interior for a comfortable ride.
