The full-size Toyota Sequoia sport utility vehicle debuted in 2001 as the largest vehicle ever built by Toyota-and close to being the most quickly accepted as a step above its competition. Although built upon the same sturdy platform used to build the Toyota Tundra midsize pick up truck, the Sequoia is modified to improve the quality of the handling and the ride to that of a typical SUV with additional frame reinforcement in the rear and a coil spring rear suspension. The Sequoia SR5 and Limited editions were both equipped with a forceful 4.7 V8 engine and both models came standard with rear wheel drive, though four wheel drive was offered as an option.

With no significant changes for the 2002 model year, the 2003 and 2004 Sequoias arrived with limited changes such as bolder 17" alloy wheels and a new load leveling suspension system as a standard feature, yet most consumers and industry analysts were hoping for some larger changes for the 2005 model year-and they were not disappointed.

The 2005 Sequoia had a refined drivetrain, consisted of high quality materials and workmanship inside and out. The 4.7 liter V8 standard engine with automatic transmission now delivered a powerful 282 horsepower. From the base model SR5 up to the fully equipped Limited Luxury, the Sequoia offered safety, stylish looks, optional four wheel drive, comfort, flexible interior configurations and a variety of other options. The 2006 model year saw no significant changes, and the 2007 Sequoia received a little more cosmetic detail.

The Toyota Sequoia has definitely made its mark in the full size SUV market in America. Though not as powerful as some of its competition, the Sequoia is more fuel efficient and still accelerates adequately. The interior is comfortable and roomy on the base model, and upscale models and options just make the ride even more enjoyable.
